Six Newark police officers have been reassigned to administrative duty following a shootout last week that killed two people.
Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose says the officers are being reassigned while the prosecutor's office investigates the shooting, which happened early Friday morning on North Seventh Street.
Few details have been released on the incident, but authorities say the officers returned fire after suspects allegedly fired at them.
Two people died, and a third person was arrested. The suspect who was taken into custody has been identified as 19-year-old Jeremy Bowser, of Newark.
