Several people were injured during an overnight fire in Crown Heights.
The FDNY said the flames broke out just after 1:30 a.m. Thursday on Eastern Parkway between Troy and Schenectady avenues.
At least three women were hurt. Two of the victims, ages 26 and 24, were taken to Kings County Hospital in critical condition.
“[My neighbor] was screaming, ‘My babies! My babies!’ She was on the floor,” said Coreen Walsh-Richardson, who lives next door to where the fire started on the second floor.
Tenants said firefighters rescued the two women from the apartment.
Cellphone video shows first responders performing CPR on one of victims.
“To see her on the ground,” said Walsh-Richardson. “They’re trying to revive her. It was terrible.”
Walsh-Richardson said her family is OK thanks to her 13-year-old son, Callin, who saw smoke and jumped into action.
“I bolted out bed,” the teen said. “I sprinted to my mom and dad’s room. I woke them up. I said, ‘There’s a fire.’ They both bolted out of their beds.”
Now they’re hoping that their next door neighbors are OK.
“Very nice, loving people,” said Walsh-Richardson. “Always smile, always say, ‘Hello neighbor. How are you?’”
Several tenants told News 12 that the fire may have started by someone who was sleeping while smoking a cigarette.
Fire marshals are investigating the exact cause of the fire.
The Red Cross said they’re helping two households, including three adults and one child, with emergency assistance.
