Forty people, including over a dozen children, are without a home after a large fire at an apartment complex in Monmouth County.
It is believed the fire started Tuesday in a pine bush outside the Twinbrook Village Apartment in Ocean Township. At least 12 units in the complex off Route 35 were badly damaged by the flames.
Much of the complex had to be demolished to let firefighters get to hotspots inside the building.
None of the residents were injured, but two police officers who helped evacuate residents had to be treated for smoke inhalation.
The American Red Cross responded to help those residents who are unable to return home.
Fluff and Fold Laundry and Dry Cleaning on Route 35 in Ocean, across from the Wegmans, is holding a clothing drive for the victims. Clothes and toys can be dropped off at the business through Sunday.
Fire officials have ruled the fire an accident.
