In New Jersey, you might start seeing changes to your mail service just in time for the holidays.

Thanks to a $40 billion nationwide investment, the United States Postal Service is rolling out new delivery step vans equipped with 360-degree cameras. The goal is to streamline operations and improve safety and speed.

Technology upgrades are also coming to the USPS Kilmer facility to boost performance and productivity.

“It’s got air conditioning, adjustable seatbelts, shelf belt, and carriers can work their mail more efficiently,” said Tracy Powers with Services of Fleet Operations. “Carriers are able to work their mail through the side of the vehicle instead of the rear. It’s a lot safer and easier to get in and out.”

“The United States Postal Service is the only service that delivers to homes and businesses in the nation,” said Lou Viera, NJ District Sales Manager. “That’s more than 169 million addresses seven days a week.”

Executives said during a press conference that employee concerns had held back needed advancements for years.
