Police in Morris County busted four people for stealing from more than a dozen churches in the area.
Father John Carroll says his church in Kinnelon was robbed on eight different occasions. Carroll says two of his former students were among those arrested for allegedly stealing church donations and electronic equipment.
Police say Sean Cahill, 18, his sister Kathleen Cahill, 20, Andrew Mascari, 18, and Peter Picariello, 46, pilfered more than 15 churches for thousands of dollars. The churches were located in Wanaque, Pompton Lakes, Butler, Wayne, West Milford, Denville and Kinnelon.
Authorities say in most cases the suspects would steal from the churches? poor boxes or candle donation boxes. Detectives were able to recover some stolen microphones and guitars. Police believe the suspects stole from the churches to buy drugs.
The Cahills are free on bail. Mascari and Picariello remain in the Morris County Jail.
