24-year-old pedestrian killed in Neptune Township crash

A 24-year-old pedestrian man was struck and killed by a vehicle early Thursday morning in Neptune Township, officials said.

Police responded at about 2:10 a.m. to the area of State Route 35 and West Lake Avenue for a report of a vehicle hitting a pedestrian, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.

A preliminary investigation found that a man driving a 2013 Honda Accord southbound on Route 35 struck a woman who was in the road, officials said.

The pedestrian, identified as Amani E. Turner, of Neptune Township, was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead at 2:24 a.m., authorities said.

The driver remained at the scene.

No charges or summonses have been issued, officials said.
