Police responded to reports of an explosive device at a movie theater in Howell Friday night.
Officials say they arrested 24-year-old Jacob Cavanaugh of Manchester. Cavanaugh is an employee at Xscape Theatres on Route 9.
Another employees apparently pointed Cavanaugh out to security, which then prompted a search of his car.
Two handguns were said to be inside the car, one of them reportedly was loaded. A hand grenade was also found, but it was not active.
Police do not believe Cavanaugh intended to do harm.
About 500 people had to be evacuated Friday night.
