LIRR service restored on Long Beach Branch following suspension caused by nor'easter flooding

The Long Island Rail Road restored service to the Long Beach Branch Sunday night after flooding from this weekend's nor'easter forced the MTA to suspend service on the branch.
The first LIRR train headed out of Penn Station in Manhattan to Long Beach at 10:06 p.m.
The first westbound LIRR train to Penn Station will depart from Long Beach Monday at 10:29 a.m.
The restoration of service happened after hours of cleanup from extensive flooding in Island Park.
Service had been suspended since Saturday 8:30 a.m.
LIRR President Rob Free spoke with News 12 about the work that went into restoring service.
"We literally pumped millions of gallons of water through the area, but unfortunately the tides come back and it created more flooding. But again, we actually pumped the city's storm drain system to make more capacity, so when the high tide did come back, it wouldn't be as bad," Free explained.
