Nursing assistant accused of forcibly touching patient with disabilities at Middle Island facility

Police arrested a nursing assistant who they say forcibly touched a patient with disabilities earlier this month in Middle Island.
Detectives say 23-year-old Kevin Lopez-Diaz touched the female patient at Surge Rehabilitation and Nursing on Sept. 3 and 4.
The 32-year-old victim notified another nursing assistant, who then called police.
The patient was taken to the hospital for an evaluation.
Officers arrested Lopez-Diaz, of Farmingville, at the facility on Saturday.
Todd Shapiro, a spokesperson for Surge Rehabilitation, stated:
"Surge Rehabilitation and Nursing Center takes this matter with the utmost seriousness. Upon learning of the allegation involving a nursing assistant, the facility immediately followed all necessary protocols and contacted law enforcement. Surge has zero tolerance for any conduct that threatens the safety, dignity, health, or well-being of the people entrusted to our care."
Shapiro also said that Lopez-Diaz was immediately suspended of all his duties.
Police urge anyone who believes they may have been a victim to give them a call.
