A 17-year-old boy is recovering after he was stabbed outside the Taft Educational Campus in the Bronx on Monday morning.

Police say the stabbing happened around 9:30 a.m. at 240 E. 172nd St. in Mount Eden.

A school safety agent told News 12 the teen was with his mother and had come to the campus to register for school. The agent said two men stabbed him outside, near the school steps.

The teen was stabbed in the buttocks and taken to Harlem Hospital. Police said his injuries are not life-threatening.

Surveillance video obtained by News 12 shows officers arriving outside the campus shortly after the stabbing. The school safety agent said campus cameras also captured what happened.

Students told News 12 that some schools inside the campus were locked down for about an hour. Students said about seven schools operate inside the building. It is unclear which school the teen was registering for.

Police said the two men were dressed in black and were last seen heading north on Sheridan Avenue.

Solodean, who lives in the neighborhood, said conflicts involving young people can quickly put other children and older residents in danger.

“It’s surprising anytime a child gets hurt. We’re in this neighborhood, and there are a lot of elderly people and kids. The danger here is different. A lot of these kids need de-escalation skills and someone to talk to, and stay off the phones,” he said.

This is not the first recent stabbing or slashing connected to the campus. On July 27, two school aides were slashed at William Howard Taft High School.

Sources said a student slashed a 53-year-old aide in the arm during an argument. A second aide was cut on the hand while trying to stop the fight. Both men were conscious and alert when officers found them, police said.

Investigators have not said what led to Monday’s stabbing or whether the teen knew the two men. No arrests have been made.
