Man struck and killed by B44 MTA bus in Flatbush hit-and-run

A 58-year-old man was fatally struck by a B44 MTA bus during a hit-and-run in Flatbush on Saturday evening, police say.
The tragic incident shut down a stretch of Nostrand Avenue just before 8:30 p.m. as the NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad worked to uncover what happened during the man's final moments.
Emergency personnel were called to a B44 bus stop near 1754 Nostrand Ave. Police say a 911 call for an unconscious man in the road first alerted them to the incident.
News 12 obtained surveillance video of the hit-and-run that shows the man walking toward the bus and disappearing behind it. Moments later, as the bus pulls away from the stop, the man reappears, lying in the road.
The footage then shows the bus continuing down Nostrand Avenue - the 58-year-old woman behind the wheel, unaware that she had hit someone.
Investigators confirmed that the B44 bus did not remain at the scene of the crash.
"I thought the bus would feel it," one resident said. "Don't they feel like they bumped into something?"
Sources close to the investigation say the man had stumbled into the right side of the bus, which caused him to fall onto the road. They do not believe that the man intentionally made contact with the bus.
Paramedics rushed the 58-year-old to Kings County Hospital, where he later died.
Multiple residents say the man was well known in the neighborhood and described him as a good person who was more than just a familiar face.
"There were times people didn't speak English, and he would help them out," said Joseph, a friend of the victim.
Joseph also told News 12 about his last conversation with the victim - he said he told him to stop drinking.
The MTA referred News 12 to the NYPD for information regarding the investigation.
No arrests have been made, and the man's identity has not been released as of Sunday night.
