White Plains woman in custody after newborn boy found abandoned in ShopRite bathroom

A newborn boy was found abandoned inside an employee bathroom at a ShopRite in White Plains, authorities said.
Emergency crews were called early Sunday to the store at 13 City Place in the City Center shopping complex.
The infant was found in a ShopRite employee bathroom and was given emergency medical care at the scene.
He was taken to White Plains Hospital and was listed in stable condition, according to authorities.
The child is now in the care of Child Protective Services.

Police identified the mother as a 32-year-old White Plains resident who works at the ShopRite.
She is in custody, and investigators are working with the Westchester County District Attorney's Office, authorities said.
Charges are pending.
ShopRite previously said store associates discovered the newborn, called 911 and cared for the baby until emergency responders arrived.
"We sincerely appreciate the community who notified this department and the first responders who acted with urgency and professionalism this morning. Their rapid intervention was instrumental in securing the infant’s wellbeing," said a press release from the White Plains Department of Public Safety.
