'It's really a special community.' Event provides free back-to-school resources to Haverstraw students
Hundreds of people attended the first-ever Blue and You event at Haverstraw Elementary, where local agencies partnered to provide free school supplies, hair styling and other resources for students.

With the first day of school approaching, students in Rockland County received support from the community at the first-ever Blue and You event held at Haverstraw Elementary School.
There were free haircuts and hair styling, school supplies, community resources, and first responder agencies connecting with local families.
The Town of Haverstraw, the Haverstraw Police Department and the North Rockland Central School District partnered to organize the event.
Officer Victoria Vitelli, of the Haverstraw Police Department, was one person behind it. She said the event was designed as a way for officers to give back to the community based on her own experiences.
"We just wanted to find a way for the cops to give back to the community. I found the need when I was working as a school resource officer that a lot of our kids in our community needed a little extra help to feel confident when they come back to school in the fall," Vitelli said.
North Rockland Central School District Superintendent Dr. Kris Felicello praised the community's support of the event.
"It's really a special community and a day of celebration here," Felicello said.
Hundreds of people attended the event.
