A Bayonne man has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a pedestrian in Jersey City last month, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office.

Santiago Mena-Gutierrez, 27, was arrested Monday and charged with knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collision resulting in serious bodily injury, endangering an injured victim and obstruction. He was released pending his first court appearance.

The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. July 5, near Ocean Avenue and Winfield Avenue.

Responding officers found a 31-year-old man with serious injuries, prosecutors said. The vehicle that struck him did not remain at the scene.

Investigators later identified Mena-Gutierrez as the driver of a Kia Soul that hit the pedestrian, according to prosecutors.
