A public hearing has been postponed on a proposal that could bring Nassau County’s first cannabis dispensary to the Village of Lake Success.

"We sent them a note last Wednesday, and just a short time after that, they announced the postponement. Maybe they're listening to us," said Steven Pearlman, vice president for Board University Gardens.

The hearing, originally scheduled for Monday night, was canceled after village officials said they plan to revise the proposed law before rescheduling it.

Under the proposal, the village would allow one cannabis establishment through a special use permit on Northern Boulevard near the entrance to University Gardens. The proposal includes restrictions such as limited operating hours, security requirements and no marijuana cultivation on site.

Some residents opposed the proposal, citing concerns about traffic, limited parking and the neighborhood’s residential character. Others questioned the need for another dispensary, noting that several licensed cannabis shops already operate just across the Nassau-Queens border.

"It's a very quiet, you know, family-oriented neighborhood. A lot of children play and a lot of people walking... Cannabis in the neighborhood? No, I would not be voting for that," said Charlene Campbell, of Great Neck.

The proposal could pave the way for Nassau County’s first cannabis dispensary if it is approved.
