A 36-year-old man was hospitalized after being slashed during a robbery in Riverdale on Saturday evening, according to the NYPD.
Police said the robbery happened around 7:40 p.m. near the corner of Broadway and Van Cortlandt Park South.
Investigators said two men who were riding a moped approached the victim, displayed a knife and attempted to steal his chain.
The victim was slashed across his left arm during the struggle.
The suspects took the chain and fled the scene on the moped.
The victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover, police said.
The robbery comes as crime in the area has increased compared with the same period last year. According to the latest NYPD crime statistics, robberies and felony assaults are both up in the precinct.
"I’m shocked that happened here," said Robert, who works nearby. "Usually at that time on weekends, it’s crowded here and people are barbecuing. It’s usually safe."
Police are searching for two suspects who were last seen wearing all black and fleeing on a moped.
Police urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS or submit tips online through the NYPD Crime Stoppers website.
