Police in Hackensack are urging parents to talk to their kids about e-bikes after two teens were hospitalized following a serious e-bike crash Monday evening.

New Jersey is just weeks away from enforcing a new law meant to help prevent incidents like this.

The crash happened at the intersection of Passaic Street and River Street, a busy area, especially during the evening rush hour.

News 12 crews saw the crash involving an SUV and an e-bike.

The driver of the Nissan Rogue was a 22-year-old man from Union City.

The e-bike was being ridden by a teen who had a teen passenger. Both teens were taken to the hospital with what police described as significant injuries.

No summonses were initially issued, and the crash remains under investigation.

Hackensack police are also reminding residents that the new e-bike laws go into effect on July 19.

According to police, kids under 15 are not allowed to ride e-bikes, and riders are required to have a license, registration and follow traffic laws.
