A growing memorial of flowers, candles and personal tributes now stands inside Dyker Beach Park, where family and friends are remembering 21-year-old Manuel Chox Choc after a fatal stabbing over the weekend.

Investigators say Chox Choc and a 30-year-old man were found with stab wounds near the park's athletic fields shortly before 2 p.m. Both were taken to Maimonides Medical Center in critical condition. Chox Choc later died from his injuries, while the second victim remains hospitalized.

Those closest to Chox Choc say they are struggling to come to terms with the loss. His girlfriend, Rosie, described him as a caring young man who enjoyed spending time with friends and playing soccer at the park.

"[He just came here to play soccer and just hang out with his friends],” said Rosie in Spanish. "[They took his life.]" Tearfully, she added, "[I love him a lot, a lot.]"

A witness who was nearby at the time said the violence erupted after a confrontation involving several people near a soccer game. Tim Moeller, who was playing bocce in the park, recalled seeing a group arrive on an e-bike before the situation escalated.

"They get into an argument with a few people over here watching the soccer game. Guy jumps off the bike, walks over to them. By the time anybody turned around, the two people were on the ground. The kids jump on the bike and they ride off," Moeller said.

The incident has rattled regular visitors to the park, many of whom described the attack as unsettling in a place typically known for recreation and community gatherings.

"It's just it's a little disturbing. Shakes up a lot of people. We just have to keep an eye out and do the best we can to keep our neighborhood safe," said parkgoer John.

As the investigation continues, Chox Choc’s loved ones say their focus remains on seeking justice and honoring his memory.

"I just hope they find the people who killed him. I ask for justice," Rosie said.

Police sources tell News 12 that they currently have a person of interest in custody, though no arrests have been announced. The investigation remains ongoing.
