The Far Hills Race Meeting held a national anthem contest last night with RWJ University Hospital Somerset in celebration of America 250.

The association has donated more than $22 million to the Steeplechase Cancer Center over the years.

Ten finalists sang a cappella and shared personal connections to cancer, including winner Melody Lieberman of Parsippany, who sang in memory of her grandfather.

“I’ve been singing the national anthem for many, many years,” Lieberman said. “I started in high school, and I just think it’s a great representation of our country, and it makes me feel very proud.”

Lieberman will perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the 105th Running of The Hunt on Oct. 17 at Moorland Farm in front of tens of thousands of racegoers.
