A Norwalk summer camp is giving aspiring fashion designers the chance to create memorable looks.
Throughout the summer, the New England Fashion & Design Association and the RED Fashion School are holding different themed programs.
Fashionistas ages 6 to 17 can participate.
Over the course of several days, they design and draw a dress before creating a practice piece with muslin. A final look is made out of fabric and showcased during a fashion show at the South Norwalk Train Station.
Professor Jonathan Kyle Farmer says fashion is a language for children and allows them to express themselves and communicate with others.
"All children have an interest in fashion, even if they don't have an interest in fashion. They like to know what they like to wear. And we have a lot of students who are budding fashion designers or just want to make clothes for themselves to wear. So there's a nice mixture of people," he says.
NEFDA and RED Fashion School also offer after-school programs and art classes. People can also enroll in pattern making, fashion illustration and design courses. They also have pre-college portfolio program for students who wish to pursue fashion professionally.
