A large group of people rallied at the Riverhead courthouse on Tuesday, calling for justice for 7-year-old Jor’Dynn Duncan, the Bayport girl who was allegedly tortured and abused to death.

The girl died after months of “sadistic abuse,” according to Suffolk District Attorney Ray Tierney.

Emily Kelly, the fiancée of Duncan’s father, is charged with murder in the 7-year-old’s death. Kelly’s mother and daughter are also facing charges.

A large group of people wearing shirts bearing Duncan’s image rallied for justice for the little girl at the courthouse in Riverhead, where the three defendants appeared at conferences on Tuesday.

“We didn’t know she was suffering. If we knew she was suffering, we would’ve tried to get her out of there," Nicole Wilson, whose sister cared for Duncan for years.

Prosecutors said that CPS had placed Duncan in the care of Kelly, a move that has left many shaking their heads.

Elder Willie E. Chaplin from Christ Baptist Church of Coram said, “Somebody dropped the ball big time.”

A spokesperson for Suffolk CPS declined to comment, citing the ongoing criminal case.

The next court dates in this case are scheduled for August.
