What should have been a historic night of celebration for Knicks fans turned chaotic across New York City, according to the NYPD.

Police say at least 63 people were arrested Saturday night following the Knicks’ NBA Championship victory, including a 17-year-old boy accused of carrying a loaded firearm in Times Square.

The NYPD released video showing officers quickly surrounding and arresting the teen in the middle of the crowded entertainment district. Police say they recovered a loaded gun from his waistband. He faces charges including criminal possession of a firearm.

“This is how the NYPD showed up Saturday night to keep people safe,” the department wrote in a post on X.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the vast majority of fans celebrated responsibly, but a small number of people engaged in violence and disorder.

“For the overwhelming majority of people, those celebrations were what they should have been — joyful, energetic and a reflection of what this moment means to our city,” Tisch said.

Police say 10 officers were injured during the celebrations. Investigators also reported four slashings, one shooting, five school buses set on fire, five heavily damaged NYPD vehicles and several privately owned cars vandalized during fights and disturbances.

With a ticker-tape parade planned for Thursday, city officials are already preparing for another massive turnout.

“We will have a significant NYPD presence there and we will share additional details about that in the coming days,” Tisch said.

The Knicks’ championship is the franchise’s first NBA title in more than 50 years, and city officials say they expect millions of fans to attend Thursday’s parade. The NYPD says extensive security measures will be in place to help ensure the celebration remains safe.
