A 21-year-old Tewksbury Township man has been charged with kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault after authorities said a juvenile reported being attacked in a wooded area.
The Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office said Mateo Liriano was arrested after a 911 call Friday from a Tewksbury Township home. The caller reported that an emotionally distressed female was trying to enter the residence and said she had been sexually assaulted nearby.
Authorities said the juvenile victim had met Liriano after the two connected through the Wizz social media app and later communicated on Snapchat. Prosecutors said Liriano arranged for an Uber to bring the victim to his location, gave her alcohol and led her into a wooded area, where he sexually assaulted her.
Prosecutors filed a motion to detain Liriano pending trial. The hearing is scheduled for June 1, and a pre-indictment conference is scheduled for July 6.
Liriano is charged with kidnapping, aggravated sexual assault, aggravated assault, sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child and aggravated criminal sexual contact.
