New Jersey will launch a digital rewards program June 1 to encourage residents and visitors to support small businesses during the FIFA World Cup, Gov. Mikie Sherrill announced Tuesday.

The Welcome World Rewards Program will allow participants to earn points by visiting participating small businesses and attending World Cup community events across New Jersey. Points can be redeemed for prizes and experiences.

The program is part of the state’s broader $5 million NJ World Cup Community Initiative, which supports watch parties, cultural festivals and community events in all 21 counties during the tournament.

“The Welcome World Rewards Program gives residents and visitors a fun, interactive way to experience the tournament beyond the stadium while supporting local businesses across our state," said Sherrill. "By connecting this platform with community watch parties and neighborhood events, we’re creating more opportunities for New Jerseyans and tourists alike to participate in this historic moment.”

Fans who reach participation milestones may be eligible for opportunities to attend FIFA World Cup matches as guests of the NYNJ Host Committee. Other prizes include concert tickets, local sporting event tickets, merchandise and access to official host committee fan events.

The governor made the announcement outside The Chapped Cheese, a new AAPI-owned restaurant in Hackensack.

“What this does is, as people come to New Jersey from all over the world, they can go to this QR code, which for those of you who haven’t traveled widely, QR codes are really popular internationally as an easy way to find different things. So this makes a lot of sense to our foreign visitors,” Sherrill said.

“So then they can come to places like The Chapped Cheese and experience New Jersey and all our flavors and all our small businesses to really have our small businesses derive that economic benefit we want to see from hosting the World Cup.”
