The second annual Gaudreau family 5K is bringing together runners from across the country to honor the memory of brothers Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau.
The event was created by the Gaudreau family following the deaths of the hockey-playing brothers, who were killed while riding bicycles two years ago. Organizers say this year’s run will include participants in all 50 states through a virtual option, while hundreds more are expected to take part in person in South Jersey.
Proceeds from the race benefit the Gaudreau Foundation. Last year’s inaugural event raised nearly half a million dollars and helped fund the construction of a playground.
Participants can choose to run or walk the 5K in Sewell or join virtually from anywhere in the country.
The race begins Saturday morning at Washington Lake Park in Sewell.
