A fast‑moving fire tore through the roof of a McDonald’s in Monmouth County on Sunday morning.

Firefighters were called to Monmouth Road at 11:05 a.m. after reports of a kitchen fire.Crews arrived to find active flames showing from the roofline, prompting officials to transmit a second alarm for more manpower and resources.

Firefighters stretched two handlines into the building to begin suppression. Engine 82 was sent to the roof to open up the structure and check for fire spread in the ventilation system. The combination of interior and exterior attack allowed crews to knock down the bulk of the fire quickly. The response was later scaled back to first‑alarm units.

No injuries were reported to staff, customers or firefighters.

The restaurant remains closed as investigators worked to determine what caused the fire. The Monmouth County Fire Marshal’s Office and the Fire Academy are leading the investigation.
