A suspicious message written on table prompted a lockdown at Westfield High School on Tuesday.

The lockdown went into place just before noon after the message was found. Westfield police said that officers searched the school room by room but did not find any threat.

The lockdown was then lifted and all students were dismissed around 2:50 p.m.

Westfield officials said that while the lockdown was in place at the high school, a shelter-in-place was issued for the elementary and intermediate schools as a precaution.

“Our safety protocols functioned as intended, and we commend our students and staff for their calm and professional response,” Westfield school officials wrote in a statement.

Officials say that police officers will remain at the school in the coming days as a precaution.
