A child escaped an attempted abduction on her way to school Wednesday in Berlin Township, according to the Camden County Prosecutors Office.

Police say the suspect approached her from behind around 8:45 a.m. near the intersection of Washington and Grove avenues.

The 8-year-old told authorities she managed to get away after she tried to stab him in the face with a pencil.

No arrests have been made as of Friday morning. The suspect is described as a Black male with a dark beard, black clothes and a baseball cap with an unknown symbol on it.

The man may also have a facial injury from the girl's pencil, according to police.

The Camden County Prosecutors Office urges the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious people or activities.

Anyone with information is asked to call detective William DeFoney at 856-952-7460 and detective Sergeant Colin Kelbaugh at 856-767-5878.
