Edison Mayor Sam Joshi said approximately 100 households and businesses are still with little to no water out of the 20,000 originally impacted by Thursday’s water main break.

Those still impacted are in the area near M Lane and Edison High School.

"Approximately 99% of the residents that were impacted by the water main break have had their water restored,” Joshi said. “The remaining 1% is what we're still working on…we've done everything we possibly could have."

Crews were continuing work on Sunday after finding a break in a 12-inch pipe connected to a concrete main that dates back to the 1940s.

To move forward with repairing the break, they must stop the line, then continue to drain the water that has pooled from the break.

Crews dug into M Lane to get closer to the damaged pipe. Residents in the neighborhood have not had running water for over 70 hours. They also have had little access to enter and exit their homes.

Michael Moskaluk, a neighbor told News 12 that living without running water has been a struggle.

“I haven't had the shower since Thursday night. I was actually taking some snow and melting it down for the toilet tanks, now there's no more snow, so I don't know what to do," he said.

The initial break sent water gushing into the streets creating what residents called “a river.”

Edison Township has passed out water and offered bathroom and shower services to those affected. The neighborhood by the break was offered a hotel stay for Sunday night while crews continued to work.

Joshi said once the repair is finished, they will be able to restore the entire system.

A boil water advisory was still in place as of Sunday evening.
