Bayville restaurant owner dies from injuries sustained in hit-and-run crash

The beloved owner of a popular restaurant died from injuries he sustained in a hit-and-run crash in September.
Bob Popovics ran the Shady Rest Restaurant in Bayville for nearly 60 years. The 75-year-old was badly injured when he was struck by a vehicle in Seaside Heights on Sept. 23.

A post on the Shady Rest Restaurant Facebook page states that Popovics died around 3 a.m. Friday.
Popovics had just celebrated his 53rd wedding anniversary with his wife when he was struck. He was transferred to hospice care on Oct. 30.
The driver accused of striking Popovics was identified as 52-year-old Genell McInaw. She was charged with leaving the scene of an accident. It was not immediately clear if any additional charges will be filed.
