The Town of Islip has approved a plan to rezone the East Islip Lanes bowling alley into a new assisted living facility.

The facility will be two stories, take up over 48,000 feet and have around 100 parking spaces.

Many residents are opposed to the project, believing it is too large for the area and will create traffic issues.

The town says it still needs site plan approval, county and state health approval, along with building permits.

Construction would begin in Spring 2025 at the earliest, according to officials.
