Smoky haze from Canadian wildfires returns, but air quality in New Jersey is good

Canadian wildfires are still burning — and the smoke is headed back south. New Jersey will be spared from the worst of it with satisfactory air quality Wednesday. This new round of smoke will mostly affect western New York.
The orange haze affected New Jersey earlier this month. Wednesday is not supposed to be as bad as before. The AQI which is the measure of the air quality was well over 200 and in some places over 300. This time, it’s not expected to be as high.
New Jersey will see poor air quality Thursday as more haze will move in. The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has issued an air quality alert from midnight Wednesday to midnight Thursday for Bergen, Passaic, Hudson, Essex and Union counties.

“I thought it was one and done. So, it’s annoying that it’s going to come back," said Kristen Amoroso from Metuchen.
Officials in New York are urging sensitive groups — the elderly, the very young and those with respiratory issues — to wear a mask or limit their time outdoors when haze is expected to hit the city again.
