The body of 11-year-old Alfa Barrie was found in the Hudson River in Harlem, the NYPD has confirmed.

Barrie was last seen more than a week ago in Harlem with 13-year-old Garrett Warren.

“He never misses school, during that week they were working on a project for Mother’s Day," said Ibrahim Diallo, Barrie’s older brother. "He was really excited about that project and bringing it home to tell his mom how much he appreciates everything she does for him.”

Barrie's family says they were not aware that their son and Warren were friends.

Warren’s body was found in the Harlem River on Thursday. The medical examiner has determined Warren's cause of death as an accidental drowning.

A bicyclist told News 12 she called the park ranger over when she discovered the 11-year-old's body in the water.

"There are many questions that need to be answered, remember this is a young boy, he's an 11-year-old. This could be anyone's son,” said Diallo.

The NYPD says they are still piecing together how and why these two boys were seen together but found in different rivers.
