HOLMDEL (AP) - Two men who allegedly shot a passing police cruiser with a paintball are now facing numerous charges.
Holmdel police say the officer was driving around 1:10 a.m. Saturday when a car passed him and he heard a thump against his front bumper. The officer initially assumed it was a piece of road debris kicked up by the passing car, which he stopped and ticketed for speeding.
Returning to his cruiser, the officer noticed it had been struck by a paintball.
The car the officer had stopped had left the scene but was spotted in neighboring Matawan a short time later.
Authorities say they found two paintball guns, paintball ammunition and CO2 cartridges inside the vehicle, along with a folding knife that had been stolen from a store in Old Bridge.
