2 dead in Orange house fire
Crews were along Mosswood Avenue in the City of Orange for most of Thanksgiving evening extinguishing a house fire.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office confirmed two fatalities at 660 Mosswood Ave.
The fire was out by 6:45 p.m.
Cell phone footage from a neighboring resident showed flames shooting out of the home from what looks like the second floor.
The Red Cross was also at the scene, confirming to News 12 that they are providing a family of eight with emergency financial assistance.
"The sky lit up and my husband was alerted to the door," said neighbor Claire Stevens. "He came to the door and saw that the flames were really high. So we saw all the fire tracks coming and we just came outside and saw the flames were really out of control."
"It's just really terrible," said neighbor Matthew Mehr. "I mean, especially on Thanksgiving. So, it's pretty awful stuff."
The chief said no further information will be provided until their investigation is complete. We've been told there's not a guarantee that information will be available tonight.
