There was an emotional sendoff for a 15-year-old discharged from Hackensack Children’s Hospital on Friday.
Dominic Lipka was diagnosed with lupus last April and was finally able to go home after nine months in the hospital. He suffered kidney failure and a drastic drop in red blood cells when he was first brought in.
"It's the worst experience anybody could ever go through as a parent because at that time, you're helpless,” says Lipka’s father, Joseph Lipka. “And you're praying to God all the medicine is going to work, they know what they're doing. You're putting your trust in other people to hopefully get your son home."
Lipka will now receive dialysis at home and is in the process of being able to receive a kidney transplant.
