Today marks the solemn remembrance of the Tragedy on the Taconic, as 14 years have passed since the wrong-way crash that claimed the lives of eight people.
The crash occurred on the Taconic Parkway in Mount Pleasant. Investigators determined that Diane Schuler was driving a minivan while under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
Schuler drove into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a SUV.
Schuler, her daughter, her three nieces from Long Island and three men in the SUV died. The only survivor was Schuler’s son.
Toxicology results revealed that Schuler had a blood alcohol level of 0.19%, more than twice the legal limit in New York, along with high levels of THC.
