(AP) - Officials are accusing 14 gas stationsin New Jersey of selling inferior fuel.
The accusations come after inspectors with the Weights andMeasures Office checked whether 325 stations were selling fuel withoctane levels as advertised.
Inspectors used portable octane testers in the field and anysuspect samples were sent off to labs.
The gas stations cited are in Bergen, Camden, Gloucester andMiddlesex counties.
Violators face fines and could be temporarily shut down ifconvicted.
State Consumer Affairs Director Thomas Calcagni says the statewants to be sure motorists are getting their money's worth withsome stations charging over $4 per gallon for premium gradegasoline.
