With the mild winter weather this year, many residents are out of practice when it comes to snow.
Health officials say heavy, wet snow is one of the most dangerous kinds of snowstorms when it comes to health. Experts say cold weather puts an extra strain on the heart. Any New Jersey residents with heart disease or high blood pressure should avoid shoveling snow all together.
Experts have some advice for those residents who do venture out to shovel snow. People are urged to pace themselves and take frequent breaks. Also, residents should head out to shovel the fresh snow because experts say it is easier to shovel than packed-down snow. Health officials also say residents should always use leg muscles and bend at the knees, not the back.
