The federal government is hiring 100,000 workers nationwide to help with the 2010 census.
Census takers are needed to work in their communities to update lists and interview household members. The job pays $14 per hour.
"Fourteen dollars is not a lot of money, but it's higher than minimum wage," says Jackson Council President Mike Kafton, who is trying to get the word out on the openings.
Qualified applicants must be 18, a U.S. citizen and have a valid driver's license. Applicants also need to pass a written test of basic skills, take a background check and commit to three and half days of paid training.
