Police say 10 people were treated for carbon monoxide poisoning in Maplewood this morning, and eight were hospitalized.
Paramedics were called to an apartment building around 9:30 a.m.Wednesday after residents called 911.
Maplewood Lt. John Perna says responding police and firefightersdetected elevated levels of carbon monoxide gas.
The odorless and tasteless gas is highly toxic. It's a byproductof the burning process and its fumes can be fatal.
One person who lives in the residence, which houses four apartments, says his sister complained of headache and fatigue Tuesday night, which could have been early signs of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Perna says the most likely culprit is a faulty furnace.
