Officials on Tuesday welcomed the newest Women’s National Football Conference franchise – the Jersey Shore Wave.

The professional women’s tackle football team is set to play its inaugural season at the historic Hinchliffe Stadium.

"In keeping with our legacy of breaking barriers here at Hinchliffe Stadium, we a proud to welcome Paterson’s newest home team the Jersey Shore Wave,” says Paterson Mayor Andre Sayegh.

“This is a women's professional tackle football team. Professional women athletes are role models for other women and girls,” says Dawn Sherman, team owner and WNFC board member.

The team plays its first home game on April 5.
