One of the greatest women's golfers, Annika Sorenstam, was in Fairfield Tuesday to promote a big tournament.
Sorenstam did it all on the LPGA tour. The three-time U.S. Women's Open Champ stepped away from the game in 2008.
Since recently turning 50, Sorenstam is ready to compete in the U.S. Women's Senior Open, which the Brooklawn Country Club in Fairfield will host at the end of July.
"I'm certainly excited to be part of the event and to come here to Brooklawn in Connecticut it's a treat. I really look forward to being part of it and had a chance to play the golf course yesterday. It's really, really nice," Sorenstam said.
The championship at Brooklawn was originally going to be played last summer, but the pandemic prevented the event from taking place.
Now this summer, 11 former U.S. Women's Open champions will try to beat the challenging course.
"I'm going to do my best for sure, but I know the competition is very, very tough," Sorenstam said.
