A woman says the state has been mistakenly giving her heating assistance and won't tell her how to give the money back.
Gwynn Mason has been receiving a $37 credit toward her heating bills each month from the Universal Service Fund, which is run by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs. Mason says she doesn't need the aid.
"I want to give the money back," she says. "[They're] so many issues that this state needs; there's so much stuff that we need to get done. I don't want the damn money. Put it toward something that it needs to go toward."
A department spokesperson sent an e-mail to News 12 New Jersey calling the situation an isolated incident. The e-mail then says the department has now worked with Mason to correct the problem.
