Police: Man facing drug charges following compliance inspection

A police pursuit ended with a crash in Newark Thursday morning.

A witness tells News 12 New Jersey that he saw dozens of police cars chasing a white BMW that was coming off McCarter Highway. This happened around 10 a.m.

Another witness sent News 12 videos showing police activity just off the highway at the corner of Meeker Avenue and Empire Street. This is where the BMW crashed.

The BMW appears to have crashed into the side of a gate.

A witness tells News 12 that he saw four people trying to run from police after the crash – one of them armed with a gun. The witness says that a police officer may have been hurt.

Law enforcement officials have not confirmed these details and have not provided any information about the incident.
