A botched demolition project in South Brunswick prompted calls to police and an order to stop further work.
Police say that the property owner did have permission to demolish a building on her property located at the intersection of Georges and Haypress roads, but that she went about it the wrong way. Apparently, the owner hired a person to knock the building down, but he just hooked a rope to the building and pulled it down with a pickup truck.
A portion of the building did come down, but also kicked up a lot of dust in the neighborhood, prompting concerned residents to call the police.
Police and town officials arrived on the scene and issued a stop-work order.
The property owner tells News 12 New Jersey that she hired the wrong person to do the job. Apparently, that person was hoping to salvage some of the wood. The owner says that she is now meeting with new contractors who will do the job correctly.
