The Whitney Houston Service Area in Union opened Thursday after being temporarily closed for renovations.
With a dedication to one of the best-selling music artists of all time, the late Whitney Houston, the area is part of several service areas named after famous New Jersey natives.
The Whitney Houston Service Area is located on the Garden State Parkway near Exit 141 on Vauxhall Road in Union.
Houston was born in Newark and died in 2012. Her nickname was “The Voice,” which is engraved on her gravestone.
The service area, formerly Vauxhaull Service Area, is complete with a Starbucks, Popeyes and the necessities for every traveler. A Shake Shack is coming soon.
Demoie Bryan, of Edison, loves that a service area is dedicated to Houston.
“It’s amazing, you know. Whitney Houston is an icon here in New Jersey,” Bryan said.
Fans of Houston won’t see memorabilia at the service area just yet, as finishing touches are still being done.
