Two people were shot and wounded in an encounter with Secret Service near the White House on Saturday, a law enforcement official told CNN.
Reporters from multiple media outlets are saying that they heard about a dozen gunshots near the White House on Saturday, triggering a full lockdown and immediate response from the U.S. Secret Service.
A Secret Service official told CNN that the agency is investigating reports of shots fired at the corner of 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest, which is just outside of the White House.
CNN reports that some media personnel were told to shelter in place, while others were rushed into the White House briefing room.
Secret Service agents carrying rifles could be seen moving through the North Lawn area following the incident and blocking the White House press briefing room. The lockdown was lifted just after 6:45 p.m
News 12 has reached out to the White House for comment and was still awaiting a response as of 6:55 p.m.
