A few neighborhoods on Long Island reported the first wet snowflakes of the season Thursday night, and there could be a few more overnight into Saturday. Don't get too excited (or nervous) yet. No snow accumulations are expected on Long Island, although areas north and west of the city will have winter weather travel hazards into the evening.

The storm system is slow to move out of the area, but the heaviest rain has pushed east. Expect cloudy skies, breezy conditions, and drizzle through the morning, and for most of the afternoon. Wind gusts this morning are in the 25-35 mph range, but the highest wind gusts across the area have surpassed 40 mph. JFK had a 40-mph wind gust Thursday night and Bating Hollow had a 46-mph gust. Temperatures will drop into the 30s overnight and lingering showers may briefly bring a few wet snowflakes after sunset and before Saturday morning.

Conditions gradually improve for the weekend, but it will be chilly and cloudy to start. Saturday is mainly cloudy with some drizzle expected in the morning. Morning lows are in the mid- to upper-30s but will feel like the upper-20s. Afternoon high temperatures will reach the low-50s, with wind gusts increasing to 30 mph.

Sunday is the pick of the weekend with a mix of sun and clouds and high temperatures approaching the mid 50s.

The start of Thanksgiving week will be gorgeous. Highs will be in the mid-50s with partly cloudy skies.

Rain is expected later in the day on Tuesday, and we are also looking at a close brush with a coastal storm on Thursday and Friday.

Gloomy conditions are possible, and cold weather is expected next weekend with high temperatures in the 40s.
