Due to the wet weather, flights coming in to and flying out of Newark Liberty International Airport were experiencing delays Tuesday.
Although the rain slowed down as the day progressed, visibility was still poor. Incoming flights were experiencing roughly three-hour delays.
The delays affected not only those waiting to arrive at Newark Liberty, but also those waiting to pick them up from the airport. Families waiting for loved ones to arrive passed the time by drinking coffee and reading papers.
Limo drivers were also affected, as they were forced to wait it out until the people they needed to pick up arrived. One limo driver said that to pass the time, he read, walked through the airport and exercised, doing leg lifts and lunges where there was space.
Other limo drivers said they often got mistaken for airport workers.
"People mistake me for a regular airport worker and they ask me questions like ?Where can I get this flight,? ?What flight is this,? ?Where do I pick up my luggage,?" Nelson Gonzalez, a limo driver, said.
Some passengers who arrived at Newark Liberty Airport on Tuesday were just happy their planes landed safely. One man who flew in from Argentina said that his flight had to swing to the east, because Hurricane Dean was in the way of the scheduled route.
Those planning to pick someone up from the airport should check with the carrier first to make sure flights are on time, especially when the weather is poor.
